 American beauty and now a Bollywood newbie who is going gaga with the success of her debut movie opposite Ranbir Kapoor says that she is sexy when it comes to comparison with Katrina Kaif, Not offensive but otherwise!


In an interview, she said that though we (her and Kat) share nothing in common and have no resemblance still if anyone thinks her to be like Katrina Kaif then it means that she (Nargis) is sexy. She said detailing her view as, “How can I talk or sound like her when she has a British accent and I have an American accent. That’s funny. I think it’s a compliment that they think we look alike. I find her extremely sexy so if people think that about me too that’s awesome. But I don’t really think you can compare any two people…makes no sense to me, because we are all so different and unique and special in our own ways.”

Actress Nargis Fakhri is not only rumoured to be a former bueau of co-star Ranbir Kapoor, but she is now hurting the exes of Ranbir at the right places. According to sources, Nargis is being pitched as a ‘replacement’ to actresses Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor, who were rumoured to be dating Ranbir as well. In the endorsement world, Nargis has again created a controversy when she apparently ousted Deepika and Sonam from an endorsement, according to sources. According to her publicists, Nargis signed a deal worth nine crores with three companies. “The actor has signed up for a motor car brand, a hair-care brand and an apparel company. Now, this has sparked off a brand war between heroines after it has come to light that she has already bagged three major brands endorsements days before her first film released,” say sources. According to sources, Nargis has replaced Deepika and Sonam at the last minute amidst furious negotiations. Her publicists also conformed the deals. “It is true that Deepika was being considered for one of the brands and for the other brand they had Sonam in mind. But in the end, we decided to go with her because there is intense speculation about her and she is also easily available,” says a source. The brand war that Nargis has started has already created a flutter in the endorsement world where an actor’s worth is dependant on the number of brands they endorse. “Nargis wants to get into the league of Deepika and Sonam and she is being pitched that way too. She has already started to bite into their earnings,” the source adds. An official announcement of the same is expected soon.

Nargis a replacement for Deepika and Sonam?

Seems like a war of sorts has broken out between actresses Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and newbie Nargis Fakhri, ever since sources close to the newcomer claimed that she has replaced Deepika and Sonam to endorse a few brands. The brand war has now become a hotbed with sources saying that Nargis is pitched as an alternative to Deepika and Sonam, since she won’t charge as much as them. Sources close to both the actresses said that most of the brands that have approached Nargis were already rejected by Sonam and Deepika. With several allegations and denials flying in between, it seems that the brand war between the trio is getting nastier by the day. “I know it for a fact that Sonam has said a ‘no’ to the brand and after that they approached Nargis. There was a disagreement regarding the money that was beingpaid and Sonam didn’t want to work that cheap. You may ask Deepika about it also because I know that Deepika was approached too,” says a source close to Sonam. So, is Nargis the cheaper alternative of heroines in the under-30 bracket? “I don’t know about that, but I can tell you that there are not too many heroines in the under-30 bracket and most of their hands are full with endorsements. Also, they have a market rate and will never agree to an amount lesser than that. Deepika was approached and it didn’t work out with her. We don’t know about the reasons for it,” another source says. Nargis has steadily remained out of spotlight and has made herself ‘unavailable’ while building up the speculation around her. She was rumoured to be co-star Ranbir Kapoor’s girlfriend too, but she chose not to clarify it. In fact, according to sources, she waited and let the hype build up around them. “When she came in, there was a lot of hype, so we are only trying to keep that up. And yes, she is being pitched as an affordable alternative to Deepika and Sonam,” the source adds.

Van Heusen, the premium lifestyle brand for men, women and youth, has rolled out a print campaign specifically catering to its women’s brand. The ad features the New-York based model and the latest Bollywood sensation Nargis Fakhri as its brand ambassador. In her first campaign for Van Heusen Woman, Fakhri will feature in the brand’s range of dresses titled ‘Eye Candy’, which is also the centrepiece of the Autumn-Winter season. Conceived by JWT, the print ad has been shot by acclaimed photographer Justin Polkey and showcases many avatars of the Fakhri ranging from a corporate go-getter with a wardrobe catering to different dresses for various occasions including silhouettes like lace sheath, stripes, animal prints, florals, paired with unlined blazers, parka jackets, suede coats, offset by oversized belts and maxi envelope clutches. Commenting about the name of the collection, Vigyan Verma, Associate VP & Client Services Director, JWT, said, “For an array of dresses that is so alluring and visually appealing, it needed to have a name to do justice to the collection. Hence, we chose the name Eye Candy.” Explaining the choice of Fakhri as the face of the brand, he said, “For Nargis Fakhri, her international lineage and innate relevance to the young, modern Indian woman made her a perfect fit for Van Heusen Woman. Team Rockstar aka Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri and director Imtiaz Ali spent some quality time with nature as the trio shared some fun moments amongst the lush green fields of Punjab recently, all by themselves!

After meeting the students of a local university in Jalandhar, the team who has been traveling on an exciting road trip across Punjab had a little time to themselves before their next venture.


So we hear that Rockstar Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis and Imtiaz took off to the fields on Jalandar all by themselves without their security team, assistants and other staff!

We hear that an excited Nargis was running around chasing grass hoppers and taking in the sights of the beautiful green fields...Imtiaz disappeared to some place to soak in the peace... and Ranbir spent time sitting on the muddy grass surrounded by acres of land all around with cows chewing on their supper, breezy weather, totally isolated from the madness!

Says Ranbir, "We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful time in the rustic atmosphere. It was really nice and we all felt alive being so close to nature! We had the most fantastic time in Punjab and I want tothank everyone for the warm welcome and the love and the support given to team Rockstar!"

Nargis Fakhri visits the Golden Temple in Amritsar!

The entire team of Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision and Eros International's upcoming movie Rockstar recently made a trip to Punjab for the promotion of their movie.

In Punjab, they visited Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. The team also took out time from their promotional schedule to visit the beautiful Golden Temple in Amritsar.

While Ranbir Kapoor, director Imtiaz Ali and producer Hiren Gandhi visited the holy place at 4 in the morning, the film's heroine, newbie Nargis Fakhri visited the temple the next morning at 11am. Rockstar is slated for release on 11.11.11

Why Ranbir Kapoor doesn't have a nickname

Imtiaz Ali’s fourth film as a director, Rockstar, is gearing up for a November 11 release. It revolves around the 10-year metamorphosis of Janardan Jakar into rockstar Jordan. Talking about the transition, Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the lead, points out that to start with, his character is an
immature Jat boy from Pitampura in Delhi, studying in Hindu College.


“The girl (played by debutant Nargis Fakhri) he loves gives him the name Jordan. And because he’s a little bit of a wannabe, he finds it cool. Eventually, that’s the name the world knows him by, which in a way, not only epitomises his musical journey, but is also an homage to his love story,” points out Ranbir.


Ask the 27-year Bollywood star if he was known by any other name during his ‘growing’ years and Ranbir retorts, “Our family has a history of funny pet names so when I was born, they consciously decided not to saddle me with one. Some friends called me Randy, which like Jordan, was a pretty wannabe name, but unlike Janardan, I didn’t like it much.”


The actor, who’s a household name now, admits that when he was in the US studying method acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre And Film Institute in New York, Americans had a problem pronouncing his name. He smiles, “I got them to get it right by miming, ‘run’ and ‘beer’. It always worked.”

In his movies filmmaker Imtiaz Ali always presents the culture and tradition of its respective lead characters in a fine unique way. Be it 'Jab We Met' or 'Love Aaj Kal', the talented director made sure that the story as well as the presentation carries genuine essence, keeping on the lines of reality. Similarly in his forthcoming Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Rockstar', Imtiaz had taken pains to do intense research for the film. The subject, story, its characters, music - the director covered every aspect of the film while preparing the ground work.

Take this one for instance.... 'Rockstar' has Kashmiri Pandit wedding where Imtiaz went out of his way to showcase the ceremony in an authentic manner, including all the related rituals and traditions. Inside story has it that Imtiaz made the film's line producer meet a Kashmiri Pandit family to know the important details of their wedding.

Yes, most of the scenes of 'Rockstar' are shot in the beautiful locales of Kashmir. It is said that the director along with his team had also met a priest in Srinagar's famous Kheer Bhawani temple and watched his daughter's wedding video to have a visual understanding of the rituals.

For the female lead Nargis Fakhri who features as a Kashmiri bride, the team of designers - Manish Malhotra and Aki Narula - said to have scouted several streets to put together the perfect bride's look and attire.

Interestingly, Imtiaz welcomed the locals to share their suggestions for the sequence and also gave them liberty to inform him if there was something amiss in the same.

'Rockstar' will decide Nargis Fakhri's career

The promos of Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar' have initiated quite a buzz in the minds of movie enthusiasts. The songs of 'Rockstar' are constantly moving up on the charts. The resultant of the fusion of western rock and Indian conventional music seems good and youths are accepting these songs as the latest rage.
The film does not have just one western connection.
The lead lady of the film Nargis Fakhri also belongs to the west in more than one ways.

A New Yorker by birth, Nargis Fakhri was prominently an American model before she caught the eyes of director Imtiaz Ali.
Fakhri has also appeared in famous American TV show 'America's next top model'. She was the only contestant of the 2003 season who was called back by the organisers after elimination.
It was a great achievement by a girl of Pakistani origin to have so much popularity in an American show post 9/11.
Fakhri's Pakistani descent comes from her father while her mother is from Czechoslovakia.
A known model in the west, Fakhri has already appeared in the campaigns designed for companies of the likes of Ford, Nova and Leni.
She has some experience of handling shutterbugs in India too. She was among the models captured for Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar in the year 2009.
'Rockstar' is one of the biggest releases of the year and thus playing the female lead will ensure Fakhri's performance under scanner.
As per the teasers, the film primarily seems to be focussed on the journey of an unpolished singer but Nargis Fakhri has also been given enough space in these trailers, which shows the kind of confidence she enjoys from the makers.
Several Pakistani heroines have tried their luck in Bollywood in the past, but unfortunately none of them made it to the top.
Meera, Reema and Mona Lisa were among the girls who had come to Mumbai with a desire in their hearts to become lead ladies opposite some big names of the tinsel town. Meera in particular was brought to India with much pomp and show. She had featured opposite Ashmit Patel in 'Nazar', a film written by the ace director Mahesh Bhatt. Then she worked under the direction of Rajiv Babbar in 'Kasak', where the singer turned actor Lucky Ali donned the role of hero opposite her.
Both the films doomed at the box office and so did Meera's career.
However, Fakhri's career looks to sustain more than Meera and other Pakistani girls, simply due to the responses she is getting before the release of 'Rockstar'.
The acting talent of first timers always remains under the shadow of doubt and thus the audiences will have to wait till the release of 'Rockstar' on November 11. Then only one would be able to speculate about the duration of her stint in Bollywood.
Sometimes, even a hit film does not ensure a longer working period for a foreign face in Bollywood.
Remember Giselli Monteiro who had played the character of Harleen Kaur in Imtiaz Ali's 'Love Aaj Kal'. She is not visible after that film so far.
Therefore, Nargis Fakhri will have to grab the chances with both hands if she wants to stay in Bollywood.

Bollywood's RockstarRanbir Kapoor and his co-star Nargis Fakhri in Imtiaz Ali's upcoming flick rocked Ahmedabad as the duo promoted the film at dandiya venues across the city on October 2, 2011.

Rockstar is touted to be one of the biggest releases of the year as the film boasts of a tight story, some amazing song and dance routine and Generation X's poster boy Ranbir. The film is slated to release in mid-November.

Ranbir, who plays the role of a rock star in the film, truly played to his character and made the audience go wild as he, along with Nargis, participated in garba celebrations, being held on the occasion of the ongoing Navratri festival. 'Rockstar' garba tonite!

AHMEDABAD: It is going to be a 'Rockstar' of a Navratri event on Sunday night as Bollywood heart-throb Ranbir Kapoor and newcomer Nargis Fakhri will match steps with revelers at Shanku's Dandiya 2011 presented by The Times of India and Vraj Vihaar at Karnavati Club.
The event will be hosted by Arvind Vegda as Navratri enthusiasts dance to the tunes of music gurus Prasad Kadam and Samir Raval.
TOI's Shanku's Dandiya garba event has been a huge hit with Amdavadis so far. "The response of people has grown with each passing day and there is a huge turn-out on the weekend. The presence of film stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri is expected to liven up the garba dance floor this weekend and thrill the crowd," said Dilip Chaudhary, MD of Shanku's Group.
Chaudhary said that crowd management is a key factor to ensure a successful dandiya night. "We have made complete arrangements to ensure that people's safety is not compromised with. Adequate security personnel have been put on the job to ensure that everything is in control," he said.
The event promises to get even better as Navratri progresses. "Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri will join the crowds, displaying their dandiya moves on Sunday, while the team of Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn starrer 'Rascal' will flaunt their moves at the end of this festivity," Chaudhary said.
"Marriott has witnessed great bookings during Navratri. On the hospitality front, the guests are escorted to the celebration venue which has been mainly designed for them to get a feel of this festival. A special midnight buffet has also been arranged for guests with pure vegetarian food especially for the festivities. Ranbir Kapoor and the cast of 'Rockstar' are also lodging at Marriott to celebrate this occasion," said Parul Thakur, GM, Courtyard by Marriott.

Rockstar music launch at Dargah

Director Imtiaz Ali often frequented the Nizamuddin Dargah during the shooting of his next, " Rockstar", that stars Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri. We had reported earlier that he had shot a qawwali sequence at the dargah.

And that's not the only connect the dargah has with the film – Ranbir's grandfather Raj Kapoor was a frequent visitor and would often bring his films' reels to the Sufi saint's shrine. Ranbir too, stayed there for a couple of days while shooting for the qawwali scene in the film. AR Rahman (the film's music director) has often expressed his reverence for the place, and Imtiaz is a regular.

During the Ganpati visarjan in Mumbai a few days ago, Imtiaz Ali had placed a copy of the film's music CD at the feet of the Ganesha idol at RK Studios in Chembur. Now, DT has learnt that the director has decided to release the music of "Rockstar" at Nizamuddin Dargah for an auspicious beginning.

The launch will probably be towards the end of this month, after the end of the Urs Mahotsav, and will be a night event. Imtiaz will be accompanied by Ranbir and a few members of the cast, and he is, apparently, also trying to convince Rahman to make a quick trip with them. At the launch, there will also be a qawwali session, where they will sing the qawwali that features in the film. Imtiaz was unavailable for comment, but dargah in-charge Syed Afsar Ali Nizami confirmed the news and said, "Imtiaz bhai has shot the qawwali at the dargah and even Rahman bhai has a very special place for it in his heart. The dargah features in the movie too, and we hope for the success of its music."

Nargis Fakhri bonds with Ranbir Kapoor's mom

From Deepika Padukone to Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra to Nargis Fakhri, actor Ranbir Kapoor has been linked with several pretty women in the Bollywood. Though it is difficult to say who among them is Ranbir's beloved, Headlines Today surely found his mommy Neetu Kapoor's favourite.

Nargis -- Ranbir's Rockstar female lead and rumoured girlfriend -- was spotted embracing his mum Neetu as the movie crew hosted a surprise birthday bash for the Kapoor lad.

However, what actually surprised the shutterbugs was Ranbir's guest list. While Nargis was busy scoring brownie points with Neetu, it was Ranbir's past flame Deepika who sent shockwaves amongst shutterbugs as she stepped in, looking gorgeous as ever.

It was interesting to note that Deepika arrived without her rumoured love interest Siddharth Mallya.

In fact, Deepika and Ranbir are reportedly trying to reignite their chemistry for an Ayan Mukherjee film. It was little wonder why Deepika too featured amongst friends like Priyanka and Nargis at the birthday boy's bash.

Rishi, Neetu Kapoor like Nargis Fakhri

Even before they knew she was part of Ranbir's film, his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor were captivated by Nargis Fakhri.

Nargis Fakhri has been constantly linked with Ranbir Kapoor ever since she was signed for the film Rockstar . But not many people know that even Ranbir's parents, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor have a liking for Nargis.

When she had just begun filming with Ranbir, Nargis found herself in a rather funny situation with her co-star's parents. The team had just commenced shooting in Delhi and Ranbir's parents – Rishi and Neetu Kapoor had come to visit the team on the sets. They were staying at the same hotel where Ranbir, Nargis and the other crew were put up.

Incidentally, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor were catching up with Imtiaz in the hotel lobby on arrival when they spotted a beautiful girl sitting across the hall, talking to someone. They were so captivated by her ethereal beauty and good looks that they immediately drew Imtiaz's attention towards the girl and exclaimed that such a pretty girl should consider making a career in Bollywood.

Imitiaz chuckled, telling Rishi and Neetu that she is indeed making her debut in Bollywood, and that too opposite their son Ranbir! That's when the Kapoor couple realized that the girl sitting in front of them was Nargis Fakhri! An amused Imitaz immediately called Nargis over and introduced her to the senior actors.

Later when the incident was narrated to Ranbir, they all shared a good laugh over it!

Nargis Fakhri proves she’s a true rockstar

Proving that she’s not just another pretty phoren face is Nargis Fakhri.

The recently released promos of Rockstar have established conclusively that Nargis shouldn’t be talked about solely for her alleged closeness to co-star Ranbir Kapoor or her marked resemblance to Katrina Kaif.

“Nargis has made the industry sit up and take notice of her at a time when not many felt she would be able to deliver on such a prominent stage. But the way Imtiaz (Ali) has given her so much of space in the promo proves the amount of trust he has in her ability,” said a filmmaker on condition of anonymity.

But there are still a few cynical voices. “A promo consists of the film’s best shots so obviously, Nargis is looking her best,” a trade analyst says.

“Her body language and dialogue delivery seem to be spot on. But will she sustain that throughout the film? For that, we need to wait and watch.”
